I Am
In his Gospel, the Apostle John goes to great lengths to prove to us that Jesus not only demonstrated his divine nature through his miraculous works and wonders, but that he also declared his divine nature through his preaching and teaching. John therefore, not only testifies to his eye witness accounts of Jesus’ work on earth, but He also records some of Jesus’ teaching with this express intention in mind – Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. To support this textual emphasis, John records seven “I AM” statements that the Lord made throughout his ministry. This series will examine these seven statements with the goal of understanding what Jesus was saying about himself in making them. It will also seek to explain what this means for us as Jesus followers and for the world who so desperately needs Him.
