Ruins + Revival: Lessons From The Life Of Nehemiah

Nehemiah is an amazing book! It picks up the story of Israel around 90 years after Cyrus the Great ended their exile, allowing them to return to the ruined city of Jerusalem. Following on from the book Ezra, Nehemiah continues to examine Israel’s post-exilic condition and God’s heart for restoration! It focuses in on the life and leadership of this one man – Nehemiah – and his heart to see the city walls restored and God’s covenant ways reinstated. Yet, as we look a little deeper, we discover that this story is about so much more than an ancient tale of rebuilding and ritual renewal. For within the history is a powerful message that transcends time and space, illuminating God’s heart for his people to know their true identity and purpose, as He works in and through us to reveal something of his kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
